The View from Middle Spunk Creek
Almost at the Starting Gate
Once upon a time, when I was a writing neophyte, I thought that typing the words “The End” was the finish line.
Then I learned that I had just written something called a first draft. There was rewriting, and editing, and proofreading, and rewriting, and rewriting, and rewriting to be done.
It was then that I thought that getting the book to its “final” form, so it could be pitched to agents and publishers, was the finish line.
Then I learned about rejection. And rejection. And rejection.
Rejection led me to realize that getting the book published was the finish line. Getting that book in your hands, being able to say “I did that”, showing your friends that you were a real author: that was the epitome of a writer’s quest.
But on the way to publication I learned about marketing. It is a slow, agonizing, expensive, time-sucking education.
Suddenly, I understood that getting published is not the finish line. It is the starting gate. The walk from the stable (your first draft), through the paddock (perfecting your book) and onto the racetrack (rejection) and getting into the starting gate (publication) are the easy parts.
Cloud Warriors will be released, world-wide, on Friday, February 22, 2019.
Now comes the hard part: Marketing. And there is no finish line.
You can order your copy of Cloud Warriors, either in ebook or hardcover, on Amazon or from your favorite bookstore.

Good friend, Marilyn Fugelseth, sent this little poem after reading an advance copy of Cloud Warriors:
