The View from Middle Spunk Creek
Living The Dream
We’ve all heard the phrase, probably used it in our own conversations. From a writer’s perspective, Brian Freeman is actually living the dream.
I had a chance to spend a few minutes with Brian a couple of weeks ago at Bookstube at the Bierstubein Hastings, Minnesota. Just wanted to rub shoulders with him. Maybe catch a little of the magic that has propelled his career like a skyrocket.
Until a year ago he was busy and content cranking out psychological thrillers in his two series: The Jonathan Stride series set in Duluth, Minnesota, and the Frost Easton series set in San Francisco with Frost Easton. Then along came a No. 1 audible book, movies, television and the Robert Ludlum estate–all in the last twelve months.
His book, The Deep, Deep Snow, became a New York Times No. 1 audible book earlier this year. Another of his books, The Burying Place, is the starting point for a new television series that will debut in the fall of 2020. Brian can’t talk much about the movie thing yet, but one of his books is on a fast track to the silver screen. And then there’s the Ludlum thing. Brian was chosen by Robert Ludlum’s estate to continue the Bourne series. You know the one. The 10-book (and multi-movie) spy thriller series featuring Jason Bourne (think Matt Damon). Brian is currently writing his first Bourne book, due out in mid-2020.
Oh, I almost forgot. His new stand-along thriller, Thief River Falls, will come out on February 1, 2020.
If you get a chance to catch up with Brian at a book event, you’ll find him friendly, funny and self-deprecating.
But don’t get too close to him. He’s on fire!
