Book Club Questions for The Sower
“The Hook,” “The Book,” and “The Cook,” are terms frequently used in the book publishing industry. In this case, “The Hook” relates to a character that drew you into the story. “The Book” poses questions about specific scenes or characters. “The Cook” refers to questions you would ask the author about the story. THE HOOK
- Which character would you like to have lunch with? Why? What would you talk about?
- What is the first question you would ask her/him?
- If you were casting a movie of The Sower, who would you cast in the role of your lunch partner?
- In your own words, describe you lunch partner both in physical appearance and psychological makeup.
THE BOOK
- The main characters in The Sower are women. If you were a psychologist, how would you describe the two or three dominant traits of the following characters:
- Veronica (Ronni) Brilliant
- Magnolia Kanaranzi
- Carrie Waters
- There are several “villains” in The Sower. Name as many of them as you can. Which of them would you least like to have as an enemy?
- Ronni Brilliant has an emotionally charged relationship with her sister. Could you identify with the betrayal her sister felt? Did the fact that Ronni was transgender affect the way you viewed the relationship?
- If five stars are “great” and one star is “awful”, how many stars would you give The Sower? [Please feel free to leave a review on Amazon, BookBub or Goodreads].
THE COOK
- The author chose to make the lead private detective transgender? Did that, in your opinion, add to or detract from the story?
- Did the book change your perspective on what it might be like to be transgender?
- If you could ask the author one question about the book, what would it be? [If you’d like an answer, email Rob at rob@robjungwriter.com.]
